Learning Reflections 2
Seminar in English Language Teaching
This is a second period for this course. The professor assigned me to find the journals last week about:
- Global English
- EFL
- ESL
- EIL
- role of English in Thailand
- role of English as a global language
In this period, I discussed and shared the information of all journals with my group and then, We are going to present in front of class all topics. After we shared the journals' information,
My group summarized that:
- Global English is the English language that is used by the most people for many reason such as communication, business, Education, etc. And It is regarded to the interlingua that world wide's people use for communication.
- EFL is a traditional term for the use or ready of the English language by non-native speaker in countries where English is generally not a local medium of communication. It is usually learned in environments where the language of the community and the school is not English
- ESL classroom is in a country where English is the dominant language. It is based on the premise that English is the language of the community and the school ant that students have access to English models.
- EIL is the English language that was spoken in many countries both as a native and as a second or foreign language. It is taught in the schools in almost every country on this earth. It is a living and vibrant language spoken by over 300 million people as their native language. Millions more speak it as an additional language.
- The role of English in Thailand is quite important as it is in many other developing countries. New technology and the adoption of the internet have resulted in a major transition in terms of business, education, science, and technological progress, all of which demand high proficiency in English
- The role of English as a global language
As
global communication expands throughout the world, so does the need for a
global language. A language that is recognized and understood by people
everywhere. In many parts of the world that language has been established,
English. In most countries around the globe the English language can be found
in some form or another, whether it be an international news broadcast, such
as CNN, or a Chicago Bulls tee-shirt. "What centuries of British
colonialism and decades of Esperanto couldn’t do, a few years of free trade,
MTV, and the Internet has. English dominates international business, politics,
and culture more than any other language in human history." (Rohde) For this
world to be truly global, there must be some commonality or ease of
communication. "If trade and tourism around the world are going to operate
and a global economy function and a global culture flourish, a widely shared,
reasonably accessible language is requisite." (Stevenson)
"A global economic and political structure needs a common tongue." (Stevenson) Everyone has their own reasons for the rise of English as the global language.

And the professor gives a journal and assigns the students to read it.
I find easy that ; when we work together, brainstorming and share the idea, or we read it together. There are easy to understand and think "What's journals write about?" or "What's journals involved with?".
I find difficult with some hard words, but professor said "It is not necessary to know the meaning of every words, but you can guess form the context and summarize them." So, I get easy now.
I didn't have any problem, it's good. I can work with friends. I can share my idea, and help to analyze journals together. I got the knowledge from the journals that my friends found them. I can summarize the journals with friends very well.
I feel better than the first time. This course make me to exchange the information, knowledge, and thinking with other. I like it.!!!!
